Echinacea can improve the symptoms of bronchitis in children, and this has clinically controlled data. In a retrospective study of 1,280 children with bronchitis, doctors found that treatment with echinacea juice accelerated the healing process compared to antibiotic treatment. This is mainly due to the fact that bronchitis is mostly a viral infection for which antibiotics do nothing, but echinacea preparations stimulate nonspecific defense mechanisms that attack virus-infected cells.
