Does olive extract have anti-inflammatory effects?

Olive oil extract contains various compounds such as oleuropein, luteolin, caffeic acid, apigenin, quercetin and rutin. With anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, antibacterial and other effects, it can repair a variety of skin problems such as redness caused by inflammation, irritated peeling, inflammatory acne, and post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation.

Olive oil extract can increase the activity of macrophages, engulf bacteria in the early stage of inflammation, and inhibit the release of histamine, thereby reducing the expression of various inflammatory factors(such as TNF-α, IL-1β, mRNA, etc.) and exerting anti-inflammatory effects. In the later stage of inflammation, it can improve the redness caused by inflammation and the acne marks left by acne by promoting cell proliferation, collagen production, etc., accelerating wound healing, reducing the rate of epidermal water loss (improving the barrier).

In some experiments, oleifera oleifera extract showed the inhibition of various bacterial activities, and the activity of P. acnes was reported, so it can also appear in some anti-acne products.

In addition, olive extract can help enhance the activity of SOD, GSH-PX, and heme oxygenase-1, and help improve the skin's own ability to scavenge oxygen free radicals to achieve anti-oxidative and anti-aging effects.
