The effect of quercetin on the human body(3)

5. Skin pigmentation and skin protection

Research by Zhu Yu et al. found that the number of melanocytes increased significantly after external application of quercetin in the epidermis of guinea pigs, which had a color-enhancing effect on the back skin of brown-yellow guinea pigs, and had the function of promoting the proliferation of melanocytes and the synthesis of melanin.

In addition, quercetin can also interfere with collagen transcription at the mRNA level, and combined with radiation significantly reduces collagen synthesis in keloid fibroblasts cultured in vitro. Therefore, quercetin has the potential to become a new keloid treatment drug.

6. Cardiovascular protection

The role of quercetin in protecting the cardiovascular system is mainly reflected in five aspects:

① Dilate blood vessels and lower blood pressure: For example, quercetin can inhibit the release of endothelin and reduce the tension of blood vessels, thereby lowering blood pressure.

②Prevention and treatment of coronary heart disease: Through animal experiments, the functions of reducing the incidence and mortality of myocardial infarction and lowering blood sugar have also been found;

③Reduce myocardial hypertrophy; quercetin can significantly inhibit the increase of total protein content of myocardial cells caused by angiotensin II, can significantly improve SOD activity, reduce MDA content, and has obvious preventive and therapeutic effects on myocardial cell hypertrophy.

④Inhibit the proliferation and hypertrophy of vascular smooth muscle cells;

⑤ Antithrombotic. Inhibition of thrombin causes the increase of platelet cytoplasmic free calcium [Ca2+], which inhibits platelet activation and aggregation, thereby indirectly protecting the cardiovascular system. Can dilate arteries, lower blood pressure, resist arrhythmia, inhibit collagen, adenosine diphosphate, arachidonic acid (AA)-induced platelet aggregation and the release of serotonin (5-HTP) in vitro and in vivo.

7. Anticancer effect

Quercetin has a very wide range of anticancer activities, and has inhibitory effects on various malignant tumors such as colon cancer, pancreatic cancer, breast cancer, leukemia and other tumor cells, and also has a good inhibitory effect on lung cancer, nasopharyngeal cancer, etc.

Quercetin has a variety of biological activities, in addition to the above, it also has hypoglycemic, antidiarrheal, antiviral, antithrombotic, antiobesity, antidepressant and other effects.
