Hepatoprotective effect of oleanolic acid

Oleanolic acid is a broad-spectrum antibacterial drug, clinically used to protect the liver and lower enzymes, and to treat bronchitis, pneumonia, acute tonsillitis, periodontitis, bacillary dysentery, acute gastroenteritis, and urinary tract infections. In addition, it is also used clinically for the treatment of acute hepatitis.

1. Reduce liver damage

Oleanolic acid is a pentacyclic triterpenoid compound, which has obvious protective effect on acute and chronic liver injury in rats caused by carbon tetrachloride. After treatment, the enlarged mitochondria and dilated rough endoplasmic reticulum recovered. It can also significantly reduce hepatocyte ballooning degeneration, necrosis and inflammatory response in acute and chronic liver injury. The accumulation of triglycerides in the liver decreases and the amount of glycogen increases.

2. Reduce serum alanine aminotransferase activity

Oleanolic acid has obvious enzymatic lowering effect on acute and chronic hepatitis and liver cirrhosis animals.

3. Decreases serum r-globulin

which is consistent with the reduction of liver-related inflammatory response observed by histological observation.

4. Promote the regeneration of liver cells

Oleanolic acid can significantly increase the number of mitotic phases in the residual liver of rats, and the regeneration degree is higher than that of the control group, suggesting that it has the effect of promoting cell regeneration.

5. Reduce the level of tyrosine in brain homogenate of liver cirrhosis rats

Since the level of tyrosine in brain homogenate is significantly decreased, it can inhibit the generation of pseudo-neurotransmitters, so it is beneficial to the prevention and treatment of hepatic encephalopathy.

6. Inhibit hepatic fibrosis

In the hepatic fibrotic rats treated with oleanolic acid, the hyperplasia of hepatic fibrosis was severe and significantly alleviated, and the content of hepatic collagen decreased, suggesting that it has the effect of preventing and treating liver cirrhosis.

7. Enhance immunity and inhibit the growth of S180 tumor line

Oleanolic acid has obvious inhibitory effects on mouse mononuclear phagocyte system, macrophage phagocytic function and experimental arthritis, but has effects on heterosexual humoral immune function and antigen-binding cells.

8. Oleanolic acid has protective effect on chromosome damage

It has a preventive effect on experimental atherosclerosis and can also correct protein metabolism disorders.
