1.Antiviral effect of xanthohumol

Buckwold showed that xanthohumol had an inhibitory effect on ruminant dysentery virus (BVDV) herpes simplex virus 1(HSV-1) and herpes simplex virus 2(HSV-12).In addition, Wang et al. found that xanthohumol has an inhibitory effect on HIV 1.Louis et al. studied the inhibitory effect of xanthohumol on hepatitis C virus and found that xanthohumol could significantly inhibit the RNA level of hepatitis C virus at 3.53 U mol.L-1, indicating that xanthohumol had biological activity against hepatitis C virus.

2.Antioxidant Biological Activity of Xanthohumol in Hops

The polyphenolic flavonoids in hops were mainly chalcone substances such as xanthohumol, followed by flavonoids such as actilin, quercetin, myricetin and flavonols.Flavonoids and polyphenols have strong ability to capture free radicals and antioxidant activity.
